Not that great of an entry in the series. There was a lot of telling instead of showing.I didn't believe the insta-love between the main characters. I also felt like I was missing something. Last, the first half of the book was kind of boring but since I like this series I kept with it. I hope the next one is better.
One of the best new adult books I have ever read. I thought it was going to be a typical mommy-porn book and it did have some serious sex scenes in it but the quality of the story was unexpectedly delightful. I honestly wasn't sure which way the ending was going to go and I hardly ever say that about romance novels. Really well done and I can't wait to read more from Leah Raeder.
*I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.*I don't usually read books about angels and demons. Nothing against the concept it's just not my thing. So going into this book I didn't have high expectations. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were only a couple of small things that I thought could have been better and that's why it gets 4 out of 5 stars.
The first scene that shows what Wake's job is would have been better without all the detail. I know they say it's better for authors to show than tell but I think this scene would have been better if it opened with Wake having already done the deed because I didn't find the interaction between Derek and his "girlfiend" believable. It felt rushed to me. Derek's decision seemed to happen quickly even though he had been thinking about it the night before.
There were some items that could have taken a little more time to develop. The relationship between Jacob and Wake is one example. One more scene with them might have helped.
Also, I really wanted more of Judy and Oduda. Maybe we'll get more of Oduda in another book. A story centered around her and Nevin would be entertaining. And a whole spin-off series could be developed that was centered around the demon hunters.
Speaking of Nevin I loved him. I actually liked him better as a bad guy than Satan.
The writing was really well done. The story moved quickly and never dragged while at the same time doing a really good job at world building. I loved the action. I know a book is compelling when I'm trying to get things done quickly in order to get back to reading. That's always a good sign for a book.
Lastly, the best thing the author did was not copping out on the ending. I got worried for a little bit but he didn't disappoint. I'm not going to give anything away but I was happy with the ending.
I'm looking forward to reading what happens next in the series. There are so many different directions the author can take.
Reminded me of the movie Sliding Doors with a dash of X-Men thrown in. Enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
This book is heartbreaking and makes me scared for when my daughter is a teenager. The author throws in a lot of subplots and some of them felt unnecessary.Not as good as Gone Girl which this book is getting compared to a lot but overall a good book.
Very quick read. Beautiful writing about such a horrific subject. I wish the ending didn't stop at the liberation of the camp. I would like to read about what happened to him right after. How did he re-enter society? How did he cope with the trauma of what happened to him? What support (if any) was there for him? Did his older sisters die as well? If not, did he ever find them? How did he find out about his mother and younger sister? What led him to settle in France?
This book was slow in the beginning and I found myself skimming but it really picked up and I ended up liking it. Not as much as the first book but still enjoyable. Looking forward to Harriet and Roxley's story. The glimpses we've gotten of them in the first two books were great.
Maureen Johnson is very cruel to leave the end of this book on such a cliff hanger and now I have to wait until next year for the next book. ARRRRGGGGGHHH!
For some reason it took me awhile to finish this book. The story was good. I liked learning more about Victorian England from Dodger's perspective. I enjoyed it while I was reading it but I didn't feel compelled to get back to reading it when I had to stop.
I was not disappointed in this sequel. The writing is beautiful. The story is amazing and the world she has created is fully realized.I can't wait for the next one!
I can see how some people would find this tedious but I really enjoyed all the detail and convoluted conspiracy. Good ending to the series.
I loved this book. The writing was beautiful. I loved that it was told with Death as the narrator. Even though Death tells you what will happen you are still heartbroken at the end. I highly recommend this book.

I just got through the first third of the book....year zero. I need to take a break and absorb all the threads. The end of this section reminds me of the end of the Wolgast/Amy section in the first book. I'm a little melancholy right now over the fate of one of the characters. It's fitting but sad. Cronin is so good at writing characters and back story and he's tying things together nicely. Loving it so far.
