The Age of Miracles - Karen Thompson Walker Beautiful writing. It had a very melancholy feel to it and the ending seemed abrupt. Overall it was OK but more could have been done with the storyline.
Along Came a Duke - Elizabeth Boyle Yay! I've found a new author. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I'll have to check out some of her other work.
Fifty Shades Darker - E.L. James Why am I reading this crap!!!!! Although it was marginally better than the first one.
The Governess Affair (Brothers Sinister, #0.5) - Courtney Milan Good start for the series. Looking forward to the next one.
Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein It's a bit slow for the first half of the book. Once you get to a plot twist it really picks up. Being a bit slow in the beginning actually made the second half that much better so I don't know if that was on purpose or not. Really like this book.
Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn Excellent book. It was a little slow for me in the beginning but it really picks up once you get to the twist. The two main characters are so well written. I'm definitely checking out her other books since this is the first I have read from her.
Soulless - Gail Carriger, Gail Carriger It took me awhile to get into this book. The first third of the book was very slow and tedious. Once I got past that section I was hooked and loved it.
Insurgent - Veronica Roth I am loving this series. I can't wait for the next book. I have stayed up way too late the last two nights reading.
The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern Excellent book. The writing was beautiful and the story was great. The characters were well developed. The only thing I struggled with was the jumping around in time. I eventually just ignored it and stopped trying to figure it out.
The Duke's Perfect Wife (Highland Pleasures, #4) - Jennifer Ashley This was the weakest of the series so far. I liked the two main characters but the story line wasn't as strong as the prior books. It was very anti-climactic. Maybe my expectations were too high for this one since I was really looking forward to Hart's story.
Fighting to Survive - Rhiannon Frater The beginning was a little slow since she was recapping some of what happened in the first book but once you got past that it was great. I can't wait to read the third book.
The First Days: As the World Dies - Rhiannon Frater Great story. Well written characters. They should make this into a movie.
Soft Apocalypse - Will McIntosh I gave this a good rating because I kept thinking about for a couple of days after I finished it. To me that's a sign of good book. It's dark but it's about an apocalypse. To me the ending was not hopeful and while I probably would have done the same thing it was hard come to terms with characters choosing the path they chose.
Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly - Anthony Bourdain Makes me appreciate chefs more and makes want to be more adventurous with food. He has a strong voice that comes through in the writing. I could hear him talking in my head. I love the New York attitude.
